Hello,
Imagine 1,000 ESTC events taking place all around the world on the weekend of 16-17 October. Here it is; The first edition of the Eat So They Can newsletter for 2010! As you can see, the ESTC team is very excited and inspired about what lies ahead this year. We have a new website ( www.eatsotheycan.org ), a new fundraising site (coming soon) and a new, ambitious (but possible!), fundraising goal. We can't wait to get you involved. In this newsletter I've tried to provide you with some information about last year's achievements as well as some details of the changes we are making this year. I hope it inspires you and that after reading it you'll be ready to sign-up as a 2010 ESTC host. Looking forward to a great year! Best,

Going Global! We are excited to announce that Eat So They Can will now support projects all around the world. ESTC started in 2007 by just supporting Kenya and has gradually grown over the past three years to support many countries in Africa. We now feel ready to turn this into a global campaign and 2010 funds will be used to support countries in Africa, Asia and South America. When you sign-up as a 2010 ESTC host you will have the opportunity to select your cause. We believe it is important for our hosts to feel connected with what they are fundraising for which is why we would like you to have this choice. You can choose from the following causes:

ESTC Distribution TripsThe 2009 Grand Prize winner was the amazing Hilary Sullivan from the United States. Here is what Hilary had to say about the trip: "Little did I know what my decision to be an Eat So They Can host would lead to! The GVN ESTC 2010 Kenya trip has been a week like no other, packed from beginning to end with unforgettable experiences. And now the 10 of us from all corners of the globe, US, UK, NZ, Australia, S. Africa and kenya are all going our separate ways with so much to think about and images which will remain with us for the rest of our lives." As the incredibly lucky winner of the ESTC 2009 campaign, I have had the privilege of seeing first hand precisely how the donations from the ESTC hosts are allocated and distributed, directly into the hands of those who need it most. As they say in Swahili, asante sana, thank you very much to GVN, to Colin Salisbury, GVN founder, and especially to Lauren McMahon, and Tracy Pillay for going to such lengths to make this a life changing experience for all the participants. Let's hope that the ESTC 2010 campaign will reach a new record in donations. Asante Sana!" - Hilary. To read more stories from the ESTC trip visit the blog http://blog.eatsotheycan.org/.

2009 AchievementsWe will be putting together an annual report for 2009 once we have completed the distribution of 2009 funds. For now, I would like to tell you just a few stories which illustrate the difference that our hosts are making around the world. AfricAid, TanzaniaThe goal of AfricAid is to provide young women with the opportunity to transform their own lives and the futures of their communities. Thanks to ESTC 2009 funds, AfricAid is now able to continue and improve their lunch program at Losinoni School. "Thank you so much for the generous support from the ESTC Campaign to AfricAid and the Losinoni School lunch program. Your support will have an enormous impact in the the lives of the school children. We have been working in this community for the past seven years and the village leaders, parents, and teachers are very committed to educational opportunities for their children. Because of the work of GVN Foundation, AfricAid will now be able to greatly improve the lunch program and in that, we are all very grateful!" - Ashley, AfricAid. Shelter, KenyaShelter Children's Home is located in Nairobi and is home to 198 children from ages 2-22. The orphanage is run by an amazing lady called Mary who promised many years ago to her Grand-Mother that she would keep the orphanage running under all circumstances. Mary is committed to providing the children in her care with the best possible education and care. Thanks to ESTC funds Shelter was able to reconnect their electricity and we are also supporting several of their sustainability projects including their farm. "THANK YOU very much. I dont know what to say, but having power back is a big miracle. We appreciate the support you are giving to the less fortunate in Kenya. Tell the GVN family that we are in the light again courtesy of all of you." - Mary, Shelter. To read more about our partners, please visit http://www.eatsotheycan.org/meet-the-team/partners/.
