Eat So They Can Newsletter

Eat So They Can

Dear ,

With the year drawing to a close, it's a great time to reflect on all that has been achieved in 2010. This year has been a year full of firsts for the ESTC team - the first time we have had events in all seven continents, the first time we have had incredible ESTC ambassadors, and the first time we have expanded to support projects all around the world.

We are so grateful to you for helping our campaign 'grow up' this year and for helping us raise over $128,000 to support incredible women and children in reaching their potential.

On behalf of all the Eat So They Can team and the women and children we work to support, we would like to wish you a very happy holiday season! We hope that 2011 will be a great year for you, full of happiness, adventure, friends and family, ... and Eat So They Can parties!

With Gratitude,

Courtney
ESTC Co-Founder and GVN Foundation Director

Trip

Distribution Trip

Although only one host can win the Grand Prize Draw, ideally we would love for all our hosts to have the opportunity to meet the amazing people who are benefitting from ESTC. We have therefore opened up our Distribution Trip as a GVN program which you can pay to join if you do not win the trip.

By joining this program you will be involved in delivering supplies to the schools, orphanages and camps we support. The goal of the trip is also to provide you with an insight into how non-profits work on the ground and the trip will therefore also include workshops and talks by our reps and partners.

We really hope you can join us! To learn more or apply for the program, visit the Distribution Trip webpage. There are limited places so we encourage you to apply as soon as possible.

Losinoni

A special thank you from Tanzania

I would like to end this newsletter by sharing a recent success story from our partner AfricAid who have been using Eat So They Can funding to run a lunch program at Losinoni Primary School in a rural Maasai village in Tanzania.

Each day 750 children, many of whom walk several miles to and from Losinoni Primary School and do not eat breakfast, now have access to lunch five days a week and on two of those days, they receive makande (corn and beans) which provides an increased quality of nutrition. Through the support of ESTC this year, AfricAid has provided over 58,500 makande school lunches.

The most exciting part of this lunch program is that it has had a significant impact on the success of students at the school. The program has resulted in increased attendance in school and the students now have more energy and are able to participate fully in classroom sessions because they are well fed.

Mr. Ezekiel, Head of School, recently reported that "The number of pupils selected for Secondary school increased from 13 in 2004 to 64 in 2009." Wow! Thank you for making this possible!
