Eat So They Can Prize winners!
Each year, we offer one lucky host an incredible experience. Each host who
raises over US$500 and submits their donations by the 31st December is
entered into our prize draw and is eligible for the chance to win our fantastic prize. In addition, all hosts who raise over US$20,000 will be invited on the trip!
This prize includes an expense paid trip to Kenya to visit some of the projects Eat So They Can is involved with, as well as meeting some of the children who directly benefit from the generosity of our hosts and their guests.
The 2009 winner is...Hilary Sullivan!!
The winner of the 2009 Eat So They Can Grand Prize is Hilary Sullivan from New York, USA! A wife and mother of 3, Hilary Sullivan was born and raised in Yorkshire, England, but now calls New York, USA home. Our executive director, Courtney Montague made the phone call to let her know she won and as Hilary put it; "I was in a state of disbelief, overwhelmed but very excited. This is sort of like a dream come true, because I have been thinking hard about what to do in the next stage of my life, and ideally I would love to spend time working/volunteering overseas, time and life permitting." We are so excited we can help Hilary achieve her goals!
Hilary found out about Eat So They can through the GVN newsletter she signed up for several years ago when researching volunteer opportunities. She stated, "work, family, and life in general are so all-consuming that it's very easy to continue along the same path without thought, but I wanted to do something different and the ESTC campaign seemed a good way to get started. It was a last minute decision because it was a busy time of year for me, but I am so glad I did sign up." Hilary's event was held in her home with 10 of her family and friends gathered. While last minute, Hilary managed to raise almost $700 and thought the response from her friends and family were "very positive and generous!"
Hilary has had the opportunity to do some extensive traveling, specifically in the Middle East (another one of her goals is to speak Arabic fluently!) but this will be her first visit to East Africa. "I thank you for giving me this priceless opportunity to find out how to make a difference. I have a lot to learn." Thank YOU Hilary for your efforts and we can't wait for you to join us in Kenya!
