Uganda

Our partner organization in Uganda founded in October 2004 by Leslie Weighill, a former GVN volunteer. The organization's goal is to provide skills and funding for local NGOs and schools on a consistent basis through the placement of GVN volunteers and the distribution of GVN Foundation funding.

Funds raised from Eat So They Can will be used to support the following projects:

Nalusse Hot Lunch Program: This program provides hot lunch for 120 students and 9 teachers each day. Providing a hot lunch is very important to these kids as they often come to school not having breakfast and the school day lasts from 8am to 4pm. Before the hot lunch program became free many kids only ate a small dry bun for lunch. Now they get a bowl of maize meal with beans, carbs and protein to get them through the day. The result has been that grades have gone up and attention span has increased.

Sustainability Projects: Our partner in Uganda encourages the schools and communities they work with to seek ways to become sustainable. With Eat So They Can funds we will support a variety of projects including animal rearing, farming and income-generating projects.

Did you know... that it only costs approximately $41 a year to provide one of the kids at Nalusse with a hot lunch everyday through our Hot Lunch Program!
