The Children's Fund
All money raised through Eat So They Can benefits the Global Children's Fund set up especially to aid children living in poverty. By addressing both immediate and long-term issues, the GVN Foundation hopes to make a significant impact on the lives of the children in the programs we support.
Breakdown of Funds: Exactly where does the money go?
We understand why people are often hesitant to give money to organizations they may not be familiar with. Often people think that the money will not be spent on what the organisation says it will be spent on. The GVN Foundation believes in providing donors with a transparent breakdown of the funds. This is why we think it is important for you to know just how your money is going to be spent.
The following graph provides a breakdown of how Eat So They Can funds are spent. You will see that of the 70% that is donated to projects, this is typically divided into 30% for sustainability projects and 40% for immediate needs. While this may vary with certain partners, 70% of the money you raise always goes directly to our projects.
Immediate Needs
40% of the money raised through Eat So They Can events will be used for immediate needs at our projects. These funds will provide food, shelter, education and medical care to children in our partner orphanages and schools. A Global Volunteer Network representative and the Executive Director of our partner organizations in Africa evaluates the short-term needs of the programs and distributes the funds appropriately. To maintain accountability, for all funds granted, orphanages must submit an assessment form on a quarterly basis explaining how the funds were used.
Sustainability
The Global Children's Fund also seeks to create long term sustainability in schools and orphanages. In an effort to foster long-term economic and personal development in our projects, the sustainability portion of the Children's Fund was set up. As of 2009, 30% of funds raised through Eat So They Can events will be assigned to sustainability projects.
